Copyright Issues in Education

Copyright issues and Fair Use Guidelines seem to be a gray area for educators. Some people say it is okay to use certain content, but others say it isn't okay. As an educator, I believe we need to teach our students to err on the side of caution, rather than freedom.

When looking for materials, look for sites that allow resources to be used without limit for education or consider using the Creative Commons. Molly Kleinman is a multi-media librarian that provides examples for crediting creative commons work. As you begin a new project, or look for additional resources, be sure to check out her site and become informed before you collect the pieces!
